Overview. Great Play now offers programs that focus on a single sport, in addition to our multisport Sport Skills Program.
This new seasonal sport program is designed to help Players quickly build skills and confidence in a specific sport - often to complement a Player's participation in a recreational league, or to simply give the Player the skills to enjoy playing the sport casually.
Background/Purpose. When kids go out on the court or field and succeed, it builds confidence and the desire to keep playing. That, in turn, further improves their skills. Getting the ball rolling on this virtuous cycle of confidence-participation-improvement is the first step to a lifetime of physical activity.
That’s our goal – to create a fun-filled, non-threatening environment for Players to master the essential skills for athletic success.
The curriculum is drawn from Great Play's highly successful multi-sport Athletic Development Program. This program, with its 8-week sessions that provide cross-training among six sports and 24 skills, is the ideal framework for developing a broad-based athletic foundation.
The new Seasonal Sport Skill program will focus more intensively on one sport at a time; either as a pre-season tune-up, or as a concurrent skill enhancement program to go along with league play. Many Players find this very helpful because practices in leagues often focus on team play as opposed to individual skill development, or lack the coaching expertise to develop individual skills.
